Sotiris Yfantis, Res. Psychiatrist, MD, PhDc, MB, GIM Trainee
Sotiris Yfantis is a Medical Doctor specializing in Psychiatry, with training in Receptive Music Therapy techniques and extensive studies in Classical Music.
He was born in Patras in 1994. He attended the Medical School of the University of Patras, from which he graduated in 2018. He worked as a Rural Doctor in Lefkada and since 2020 has been working at the University General Hospital of Patras as a Resident in Psychiatry. Since 2023, he has also been training in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy.
From a young age, he began his studies in Classical Music. He holds degrees in Harmony, Piano, and Advanced Theoretical Studies (Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue), and he continues his studies in Composition. Combining Psychiatry with his love for Music, he has been involved since 2019 in the therapeutic use of Music within the framework of Receptive Music Therapy.
He is trained in the Music Breathing technique and continues his training in the Guided Imagery and Music method. He has attended significant Music Therapy conferences, such as the "The Neurosciences and Music – VIII" conference organized by the Fondazione Mariani and the "The Power of Music" conference organized by the European Association of Music and Imagery.
He has participated as a speaker on Music Therapy at conferences, such as the 4th "Brain and Mind" conference with his presentation "Music, Brain, and Guided Imagery and Music (GIM): The Neurobiological Basis of Music as a Therapeutic Tool" and at the 3rd Panhellenic Conference of Positive Psychology with his presentation "The Role of the Music Imagery Method in Supporting Chemotherapy Patients."
He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Medical School of the University of Patras, conducting his doctoral dissertation on the benefits of receptive music therapy for oncology patients starting chemotherapy.
Since 2023, he has been a scientific associate and a member of the Board of Directors of Sonora.
