George Tsouvelas is a psychologist and psychotherapist, holding a degree in Psychology from the University of Crete, Greece. He possesses two postgraduate specializations: one in School Psychology and the other in Health Services Management. In 2018, he earned his PhD in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) with the highest distinction. Dr. Tsouvelas is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy (CBT) and is an active member of the Hellenic Society of Cognitive Psychotherapies. His professional training includes the Cognitive Psychotherapies Unit at the 1st University Psychiatric Clinic of Aeginiteion Hospital. Additionally, he has received further training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) through the Society for Cognitive and Behavioral Studies. He is a certified trauma psychotherapist by EMDR-Europe for EMDR therapy for both children and adults. His extensive training encompasses Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and the Comprehensive Resource Model for complex trauma. Furthermore, he has been trained in Systemic Psychotherapy at the Family Therapy Unit of the Attica Psychiatric Hospital. He is a member of the Clinical and Health Psychology Branch of the Hellenic Psychological Society. In addition to his professional qualifications, he is proficient in classical guitar and has a strong knowledge of traditional instruments. He has worked as a musician in children's camps and participated for many years in the Choir of Messolonghi.
He has served as an adjunct lecturer with independent teaching responsibilities in the Departments of Nursing (University of West Attica), Psychology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), and Speech and Language Therapy (University of Patras). His research interests include post-traumatic stress, anxiety management, music-movement and music-therapeutic interventions, and intercultural psychology. He maintained a private psychology practice in Athens from 2010 to 2020 and has been practicing as a private psychologist and psychotherapist in Messolonghi since 2023.
