Evangelia Papanikolaou, PhD, FAMI, ΕΑΜΙ, Scientific Director of Sonora, Music therapist-music psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer.

She has a Doctoral degree in Music Therapy (academic scholar, Aalborg University, Denmark), a MA degree in Music Therapy (Roehampton University, UK), an MSc in Clinical Neurosciences and Immunology, and degrees in Music Studies (Hellenic Conservatory, Athens). She is and Accredited Therapist and Trainer in the Guided Imagery and Music/Music Imagery (Musicares) methods, and the main Trainer for the Music Breathing method internationally. She has been an Adjunct Professor at Hellenic American University and since 2016, she is an external Supervisor and Mentor for Music Therapy premaster/Master students at Artez Conservatory (the Netherlands) and she collaborates with many Greek Universities as an external lecturer in Music Therapy.

Evangelia has over 25 years of teaching and clinical experience in the areas or mental and somatic health. In the last 10 years she mainly focused on Oncology conducting research around the benefits of receptive music therapy for women with breast and gynecological cancer during chemotherapy (in collaboration with the Medical School of the National Kapodestrian University of Athens, Aretaieio University Hospital, Iaso Clinic, and Aalborg University). She has published articles and book chapters and has been an instructor for GIM/MI and Music Breathing and Music Therapy seminars and workshops in many countries over the world (UK, Portugal, Netherlands, UAE, China, Brazil, Turkey, etc). Her current interests are Music Therapy and psychological trauma, Music Medicine and Pain Management, Perinatal Care, Music and Wellbeing, Corporate Wellness, Music Therapy in Education, Dementia and Elderly, Women’s empowerment, Music Therapy in Community and psychosocial settings, and Music Therapy within an environmental context.

Evangelia is the inaugural Chairperson and founder member of the Greek Association of Professional Music Therapists and former Country Representative for Greece at the European Music Therapy Confederation. She has been a member of the Educational Committee and currently a Board Member of the European Association for Music and Imagery.
